It is set in a world that diverged into an other timeline due to Atomic Age technology, resulting in a worldwide nuclear Armageddon in the year 2077 in an event known as “The Great War,” precipitated by a huge war between the United States and China over natural resources.

The game, a spin-off of the Fallout series, is set in a post-apocalyptic open world landscape including Arizona, California, and Nevada. It was developed by Obsidian Entertainment and published by Bethesda Softworks.
